An Introduction to
Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care

Veterans (VA) Health Care is only of immediate use to your clients if they have served in the military and meet the eligibilty requirements.

If you believe your client is eligible for VA Health Care (see "What Makes Your Client Eligible" below), you should immediately contact your nearest Homeless Veteran Coordinator office. The Department of Veterans Affairs has a list of Homeless Veteran Coordinator offices by state. Health Care for the Homeless Veterans Coordinators are located at each office and can give you information about the services for Homeless Veterans provided through the Veterans Health Administration.

These services include:

  • Outreach
  • Case management
  • Referrals to benefits counselors
  • Linkage to health care and housing assistance

Each facility is unique, so services vary at each medical center.
