Affairs (VA) Health Care
Veteran Affairs (VA) Health Care provides a broad range
of health care benefits to your clients who are homeless veterans and
who are enrolled in VA.
Benefits Your Client May Receive
VA offers many benefits specifically designed to help
veterans and their families who are homeless live as self-sufficiently
and independently as possible. These benefits include:
- Outreach to those veterans living on streets
and in shelters who otherwise would not seek assistance
- Clinical assessment and referral to needed
medical treatment for physical and psychiatric disorders, including
substance abuse
- Long-term sheltered transitional assistance,
case management, and rehabilitation
- Employment assistance and linkage with available
income supports
- Supported permanent housing
Veterans who are homeless and enrolled in VA Health Care
are also eligible for services such as:
- Hospital, outpatient medical, dental, pharmacy,
and prosthetic services
- Domiciliary, nursing home, and community-based
residential care
- Sexual trauma counseling
- Specialized health care for women veterans
- Health and rehabilitation programs
- Readjustment counseling
- Alcohol and drug dependency treatment
- Medical evaluation for military service exposure
including Gulf War, Agent Orange, radiation, or other environmental
hazards
- Death and burial benefits
