SSDI: Social Security Disability Insurance
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a monthly benefit your clients who are homeless may be eligible to receive if they are disabled and have worked in the past and paid Social Security taxes. If your clients have been unable to work for a year or more because of a disability, they may be able to receive SSDI benefits.

Benefits Your Client May Receive

Your clients may receive SSDI benefits until they are able to work again on a regular basis. The amount of the SSDI benefit is based on a worker’s average earnings over a lifetime covered by Social Security.

If your clients receive other government benefits such as workers’ compensation or government pensions based on work not covered by Social Security, their monthly SSDI benefit may be reduced.
