Medicaid

Medicaid is a health insurance program for low-income and needy people. Medicaid eligibility is limited to individuals who fall into specified categories. The Federal law identifies over 25 different eligibility categories. These categories can be classified into five broad coverage groups:

  • Children
  • Pregnant women
  • Adults in families with dependent children
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Individuals 65 or over

Benefits Your Client May Receive
Your client may be eligible to receive a variety of benefits through Medicaid. Check with your state Medicaid (medical assistance) office for more information. The following are types of services that Medicaid may pay for on behalf of your client:

  • Inpatient hospital services
  • Outpatient hospital services
  • Physician services
  • Pediatric and family nurse practitioner services
  • Federally-qualified health center services
  • Prenatal care and delivery services for pregnant women
  • Medical and surgical dental services
  • Family planning services and supplies
  • Rural health clinic services
  • Lab and X-ray services
  • Prescription drugs
