The primary purpose of this modified system is to collect and maintain information on Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in Medicare Health Plans in order to develop and disseminate information required by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 that will inform beneficiaries and the public of indicators or health plan performance to help beneficiaries choose among health plans, support quality inprovement activities within the plans, monitor and evaluate quality improvement activities within the plans, monitor and evaluate care provided by health plancs; provide guidance to program management and policies and provide a research data base for CMS and other researchers. |
