Each year the National Medicare Training Program holds face-to-face training workshops in major cities throughout the nation, reaching over 1,000 participants. Attendees include representatives from Federal, state and local governments, including State Health Insurance Assistance Programs, the Social Security Administration, the Administration on Aging, and Congressional offices; advocacy groups; employer groups; health care providers; community-and-faith based organizations; and others who provide health information. Workshops are typically held over a two-day period. Expert Medicare trainers convey program information in a clear and understandable manner. A variety of activities, including knowledge checks and exercises reinforce learning and keep sessions lively and interesting. Over 80% of workshop attendees return to their local communities to train others on Medicare topics. This true train-the-trainer approach ultimately reaches many thousands of people with Medicare. The training workshops are an excellent way to educate partners who train others, but only a limited number of people can attend. Information about the 2008 National Medicare Training Workshops will be provided in upcoming months.
