Hospital Compare Updated As of June 22, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, working with its partners in the Hospital Quality Alliance has updated their consumer-oriented website for hospital quality information, Hospital Compare. Hospital Compare reports on 20 measures of hospital quality of care in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and the prevention of surgical infections. More than 4000 hospitals have voluntarily reported data on quality of care provided from October 2004 through September 2005. Top Clinical Performers in Premier Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration Announced Quality of care has improved significantly in hospitals participating in the CMS Premier Hospital Quality Incentive demonstration, a groundbreaking Medicare pay-for-performance demonstration project. Medicare is awarding $8.85 million to hospitals that showed measurable improvements in care during the first year of the program. Improvement in these evidence-based quality measures is expected to provide long term savings, because of their demonstrated relationship to improved patient health, fewer complications and fewer hospital readmissions.
