Summer 2008 Quality of Life of Cancer Patients Submission Date: 2/19/2008 As the science of Patient Reported Outcomes (PROs) and measurement of Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) has matured, the emphasis for moving the field forward is now focused on applications of these tools and techniques to impact policy and programs especially as they relate to managing chronic illness. This issue of the Review will focus on research that explores and assesses the impact of cancer on HRQOL across patient groups, characteristics, demographics, and behaviors, and the usefulness of these studies for informing health policy and practice. Fall 2008 Submission Date: 5/20/2008 Disease Management Providers, managed care organizations, and third party vendors have designed and implemented a variety of programs and strategies aimed to improve health outcomes and reduce health care costs for individuals with chronic conditions. Increasing health care costs as well as the growing burden of chronic conditions presents opportunities for disease and care management to impact the health of populations. This issue of the Review will focus on studies of the outcomes and challenges of managing the care of populations of Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries with chronic conditions. Of particular interest are evaluations of programs that address beneficiaries with multiple comorbidities. We are interested in manuscripts that provide results from fee-for-service and managed care environments, and from programs integrated in the health care delivery setting as well as those supplementing the traditional health care system. Topics of interest include quantifying outcomes, performance, and cost effectiveness; approaches to measuring value to beneficiaries, providers, and purchasers; pricing strategies and incentives; and approaches to optimize population selection and engagement. General Topics We continue to seek articles that are not theme-related that discuss health care research: major policy issues that present information and analyses concerning health services and health financing programs (with emphasis on the Medicare and Medicaid Programs); or the development of a particular project or demonstration. A selection of articles is published in every issue under the header "Also Featuring." All manuscripts should be submitted electronically by the final submission date to: HCFR_Submissions@cms.hhs.gov as well as two hard copies to: Editor-in-Chief, Health Care Financing Review, 7500 Security Boulevard, C3-24-07, Baltimore, Maryland 21244-1850.
