Hospital Payment Information Now Available CMS Updates Hospital Payment Information for Value-Driven Health Care As part of his commitment to make health care more affordable and accessible, President Bush directed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to make cost and quality data available to all Americans. As a first step in this initiative, on June 1, 2006, Medicare posted information about the payments it made to hospitals in fiscal year (FY) 2005 for common elective procedures and other hospital admissions. Similar postings of Medicare payment data followed during the year for Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), Hospital Outpatient Departments, and Physician Services. We are now presenting an update to last year's inpatient hospital data. The information is being displayed in the same format as last year, updated with FY 2006 data. The information is categorized by state and county and includes a range of payments, the national average payment for the procedure, and the number of hospital discharges for the procedure, by hospital. Later this summer and early fall CMS plans to post updated payment information for common elective procedures of ASCs as well as common hospital outpatient and physician services. Below you will find eight zipped Microsoft Excel files. The files are large so printing them is not recommended. Please read the footnotes displayed on each table. The footnotes contain important information about the data. The first four files (the updated files using FY 2006 data) are as follows: "31 Elective Inpatient Hospital DRGs" contains the volume and ranges of Medicare payments between the 25th and 75th percentiles for a limited set of conditions treated in U.S. states and counties. Included are the same conditions that were published June 1, 2006. Data are aggregated at the county, state and national level. An example file is also included. "Other Inpatient Hospital DRGs of High Utilization" contains ranges of Medicare payments between the 25th and 75th percentiles for a limited set of conditions treated in U.S. states and counties. Similar to last year, these conditions were deemed of interest to the Medicare community. Data are aggregated at the county, state and national level. An example file is also included. The remaining four files are the same as last year, using FY2005 data. | Downloads | Top 31 Elective Inpatient Hospital DRGs, 2006 Data [Excel Zipped, 5MB] Sample State - Florida Top 31 Elective Inpatient Hospital DRGs, 2006 Data [Excel Zipped, 64KB]
