Bulletin Board

  • HETS 270/271 Submitters:

CMS' National Provider Identifier (NPI) Contingency Plan will end on May 23, 2008.  As this date approaches, CMS reminds all HETS 270/271 Submitters that once the Contingency Plan ends, all HETS 270 requests must contain an NPI number and an NPI number only.  270 requests that do not comply with this requirement will result in an error as outlined below.

Under the current Contingency Plan, CMS is currently in a dual use state and will accept either NPI and/or Legacy Medicare Provider Numbers in HETS 270 requests.  If you have never submitted NPI numbers in HETS 270 requests, CMS recommends that you begin testing NPI usage in the near future.   If you have any questions about usage of the NPI number in the HETS 270 request, please contact the Help Desk.
